Ok, for those who don't believe in God, suspend that for a moment and imagine that there IS an all-powerful being up there.... Please? I'd like more than "I don't believe in God, so this doesn't apply." :P And no, I'm not handing out imaginary donuts, Tem.
If you DO follow a religion, you are probably familiar with the laws for how you should live.... How you should react to others, how you should feel toward other people as well as toward your God.
Do you believe God can handle your anger? Do you believe that, if you hate God, or stop believing in Him, that he'll hate you back? I've had this conversation with my VERY Catholic step-father, and I'm curious what all of you think... To be honest, I believe that the people on this site have a better grasp on religion and faith than he does. LoL
My bio-dad has a saying. "My God is big enough to handle my hatred." I think he's onto something. (It'd be the first time....) My God is big enough to handle my hatred.... My God, whoever he/she may be, is big enough to handle my (comparatively) petty anger at him/her. My God is strong enough, loving enough, BIG ENOUGH to handle me shouting at the sky "I hate you", and understand my heart.
I went through several years where I was bitter and very angry at God. My mother was bothered by this, and would ask me, "Where do you stand with God?" I finally looked at her and said the following, which I wish I could have embossed on a plaque for my wall:
"I know God's up there, and I know He's watching me. I'm not on speaking terms with him right now."
That about summed it up for me. I was so livid with God, I wasn't on speaking terms with Him.
Do you believe that was okay? Do you believe I should be punished for all eternity, because I got angry with God? I was lucky enough to have a church that didn't believe that.... but I know not every single church out there, even if they call themselves by the same religious name we do, feels the same way....
So what do you believe? Is it okay to be angry with God, to even hate him? Do you believe it's okay to stop believing, and then start again years down the road?
