Most christians also believe that there are not possibly enough works, good deeds, and whatnot to make it into heaven. It is because of his salvation that we can go to heaven.
So if it was because of his death that we get to go to heaven, what happened before he died? No one was good enough to get into heaven. No one but Jesus was ever sinless, and you have to be spotless to be in heaven. That is why he died. Was everyone damned to hell before his ressurection?
