I think self defense training should be in the curriculum for students. It just makes sense to making everyone powerful.
Don't confuse X1 talking to X2 about X3 with X2 talking with X1 about X3.
If you desire to be powerful you must take the steps you think necessary to become powerful.
I think the martial art that Defenders should learn is Krav Maga, since it seems to be what I had in mind. Krav Maga is supposed to teach one to simply and efficiently incapacitate or kill ones enemy as quickly as possible.
Defenders could learn a highly advanced one that's modified for joint use so that Defenders can predict each others movements when in battle together against one or more opponents so that it doesn't become a big mess. They could also be allowed to develop their own individual variations so that enemies who may have developed defenses against [Group Krav Maga] will be surprised by [Individual Krav Maga].
Highly advanced Krav Maga I think would just be Krav Maga that includes all simple and efficient techniques that exist from every martial art and including new inventions.
[Group Krav Maga] I think should just be limiting the techniques used... making it predictable for the purposes already stated. Not too predictable though...
Actually, highly advanced Krav Maga especially should include complex techniques as well. Basically, anything and everything that works. The major thing is to defeat the enemy quickly but Defenders in battle may determine that they cannot defeat their enemy quickly so they should have a strategy and arsenal for a more prolonged battle...
I think many fights happen because of lack of power: in an attempt to avoid a possible conflict one can feel compelled to try to stare down one to show no fear, which can actually cause the conflict. If one truly has power then one does not care if another thinks they are weak and so can easily and quickly turn away. Quickly turning away can also cause a conflict but one with power is prepared.
With power it is easier for us to be kind and easier for us to defend ourselves from those who mistake kindness for weakness and prey on it.
One of the requirements for a culture to join the [Culture Alliance] should be that they can at least militarily defend all of their territory. I think though that having a little extra capacity for joint offensive mission should also be required for those times where offensive measures are necessary...
While the holes are being drilled for the modules support beams they could drill back up holes. If there is ever a failure, since the holes are already drilled all they would have to do is lower down forms and the pipe to pump the concrete.

I forgot: there's also Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do martial art which should be, if I remember, basically, "Formlessness so as to assume any form." So it would use anything and everything that works.
