Posted by Bruised at 12:56am Jul 27 '09I have finished the libretto and lyrics to my rock musical, Angst: A Camera Into the Life of the Bittersweet Generation. Now all I need is someone to write the music. I have music already for a few of the songs, though, such as "Vague Resonations" and "We Can Date Too".
I have persevered at writing it despite a lack of responses at the sites where I posted it. Despite criticism of the characters and character development. Despite comments that Angst is "bizarre". Despite people saying that I should not write Angst because High School Musical has already been written.
Today all that perseverance has paid off. I have a 161-page script ready to be performed (well, except for the melodies). I can rest a little easier, knowing that if I die tonight, the world will still have a chance to see Angst.
I celebrated by breaking out the margarita mix and mixing a drink (with water, not alcohol). It went down well. As this play hopefully will.
Angst went through two other incarnations prior to being what I have today. The first was a play called E Pluribus Unum, based on the true story of the principal who threatened to cancel the prom if any interracial couples showed up and ended up getting shot at. The second incarnation was called simply Angst (with no subtitle). I wrote the synopsis, but never got around to writing the dialogue. The characters were too self-consciously Gen-X, and did a lot of just sitting aroond watching MTV and eating junk food.
After a long burst of inspiration, I cranked out what I have now for about a year. The characters are real. And the message is real. And I like it.
