This is about some thing that happened a while ago however it is still near to my heart and on occassion i think about how much it hurt the people involved on what was supposed to be an important day of greaveing and healing.
(I guess this could have went on the rants page because that may be what it becomes.)
As most of you know my ex is ACR well for a very long time his mother was in a unmarried relationship with a man named Craig. Craig had a heart defect and do this on day passed away in his sleep. ACR's mother was greatly effected by this.
So the day came when we all were to go to the funeral. We went in and out in the lobby Stu's mom set a collage that she had set up with pictures of him and the kids. She had a few things that she wanted to be buried with him that she laid in the casket. The entire time though we noticed this man all in white which was kinda odd for a funeral tending to Craig's ex wife.
The ceremony began We sat there as the preacher seemed to hold Sunday service. Seriously this man talked about the evil people who did not have god in there heart gesturing towards ACR's family and stating how if you do not have god in your heart you would not be reunited with Craig in heaven. It was almost as if he was saying god was holding him hostage and our soul was the ransom this wouldn't have bothered me so much if Craig had been a deeply religious person but I never once saw the man go to church. Then what go us to the next level of pissed off-ed ness (we didn't realize that wasn't the top yet.) was when he called people to the front to be saved. This a funeral not a recruitment session.
the preast then thanked every one for comeing and asked every one to head out to the burial area while the widow had a moment at which he guided Craig's ex wife up to the casket. this was in a way insulting to me.
At the burial site ACR's family was treated as though they were not there however we stayed until every one left even the priest and we had a small cerimony of our own with out this i do not thing that ACR's mother would have had the closure she needed to find her way into a mentally healthy state again.
I was just wondering is this recruitment practice normal in some types of funerals. I had never seen anything like it before. And as for the question of what type of church it may have been it was a methodist church which I though were pretty open minded. Until them
