Posted by Sedruce at 3:57am Apr 20 '07So, my bf and I were having a convo (stemming from a subthread on controversy regarding the N word and use of it by different races), and I said as an example of not disrespecting people's beliefs something about walking into a crowded room of people I've never met and proclaiming at the top of my lungs: "There is no God and Jesus never existed" which got Sam and me going on Jesus' existence...
Sam said Jesus was a brilliant con man. I said that SOMEONE involved in hyping Jesus up like that was probably a con man, but I don't know if Jesus said himself that he's son of God and stuff (if I'm ignorant, I won't form an opinion, and I haven't researched Christ much). But then I said that he must have been a very charismatic man, and a brilliant speaker. "...Much like Hitler."
And then realized that I had just compared Hitler to Christ.
The funny thing is, it's quite true. Both men were brilliant men who were able to get people to follow a cause (their causes, specifically). Both men spoke and got people to follow them to some pretty odd beliefs and do things you probably wouldn't normally do.
Of course, we can look at their intentions and say they weren't the same at all...but their methods were all but identical.
