He led the church for 28 years. In a videotaped message, he said: "I have struggled with homosexuality since I was a 5-year-old boy ... I canâ≢t tell you the number of nights I have cried myself to sleep, begging God to take this away."
Go ahead, tell me homosexuality is a choice.
How long are we going to keep making people suffer, for no good reason? Society needs to move forward, and critical to that is to put an end to the religious demonization of gays.
Interesting story, semi-related. Last summer the Christian Coalition elected a new president, pastor Joel C. Hunter of Florida. Last month they fired him. Why? He wanted to take the organization in a new direction; instead of focusing exclusively on gays and abortion, he wanted to address other issues of importance to Christians. This was not deemed acceptable.
I think the Christian Coalition and its ilk should be labeled what they are: hate groups.
