I didn't want to put two separate issues in the same thread ÃÂ ;P
Since we're talking about nitpicking and misinterpreting the Bible anyway, what's up with this Great Commission nonsense? ÃÂ Seems that folks who try this turn OFF more people than they bring in! ÃÂ I personally believe in the tenants of Christianity (though not the institution), but I can't handle people asking if I've "been saved" or (my favorite) if I've "foooooound Jee-zus." ÃÂ My usual reply is some variant on "No, not yet. ÃÂ If you see him, though, tell him I still want my fiver." ÃÂ Ugh.
So how can anyone hope to "covert them non-believers" (whatever that means) to Christianity by pissing them off? ÃÂ Seems to me that living a good life is a wonderful start. ÃÂ If people ask THEN you preach. ÃÂ Not the other way around. ÃÂ The problem is that I see far too many people ready to judge, accuse and browbeat non-Christians to "convert" them without offering any GOOD reasons why they should do so! ÃÂ I mean, admit it. ÃÂ Christianity is currently cast in such a negative light that it's a wonder that Christians themselves can tolerate this.
So why do people (and I'm thinking especially conservative Southern Baptists, but there are other sects out there equally bad) feel they have this obligation to intrude? Why can't they just try to live a good life and witness by example? Seems to be a lot more effective than running around stomping out other religions. After all, they're all gonna lead to the same place, you know?
