An area supermarket chain here has started a $4 prescription program for a 30 day supply of generic pills, and $10 for a 90 day supply. I'm aware Wal-Mart and Target have similar programs. What I found interesting in the brouchure is that no insurance is required to participate. So literally, they are getting just $4 to fill your monthly prescription. This is profitable?
Also, it makes me wonder... my insurance has a $15 copay for generic prescriptions, so when I fill one at CVS and pay $15, is the copay I'm required to pay actually making me pay more than I should? I mean, usually you think of a copay as your contribution toward something that costs more. Say the prescription costs $35... you pay the first $15, insurance pays the rest. However it seems many generics should actually cost less than the copay.
I'm totally switching over to the supermarket pharmacy.
