So, I didn't post last week's weigh-in. Not because I'd already given up, or was ashamed at lack of (or even negative) progress - in point of fact I was surprised that I had seemed to have already dropped some weight.
I didn't post last week because I don't really like to make a spectacle of myself. I'll post periodic (and irregular) updates on my progress, but don't expect to see my weigh-ins every week here.
Without further ado, here's last week's results:
Anyway, indications are that I am losing weight, although in all honesty these numbers are still within normal weight fluctuations of each other (a fact that's reinforced by Monday's unofficial weigh-in of 218). It'd be too easy to get all excited and optimistic from these numbers, only to have a soul-crushing defeat next week when I happen to fluctuate upwards instead of down.
I haven't really made all that many changes yet, either. I'm eating more fruits and veggies, which have almost entirely replaced junk food as my snacks. My greasy breakfast sandwich has been replaced with a bowl of oatmeal every day. I'm avoiding fast food in favor of home-cooked food, which is really only a baby step towards healthier meals - I'm home-cooking burgers, which while yummy (and a bit less greasy than McDonald's thanks to my George Foreman grill) aren't really going to help me lose weight. Still, getting into the habit of home-cooking over fast food is a good step closer to home-cooking healthy foods. (That's not to say that I'm eating burgers every night - in fact we've had some yummy and healthy stir fries a couple of times.)
Probably my biggest change to date is a significant reduction in soda consumption - I'm down from as many as 5 a day to 1 every day or two, with the occasional second one roughly once a week. I'm drinking water or fruit juice instead.
So overall progress is slow, but being made. I'm not yet willing to believe that I am in fact losing weight, especially given how few actual changes I've yet made, but I do remain optimistic that I am making progress. If I am in fact losing a little over a pound a week, as current numbers suggest, then I should reach my target weight of 165 by about this time next year.
I already have noticed more energy, and overall I just feel better. I'm looking around town at options for gyms or perhaps just a general weight-loss class (there's apparently someone in town who teaches latin dancing to lose weight - Jazzercise meets salsa - which would be a lot of fun). So far exercise has been my only failure point (not counting [private]'s efforts to sabotage me with Red Vines and truffles!).

I did get some PMs from people worried that I'd already given up when I didn't post last week, and offering encouragement to keep it up - those were very much appreciated! :-)
