Since I'm going to a new college this fall, I have to update my immunization records. I took care of that (for the most part) today. I now feel like a colander.
It turns out that my vaccinations were pretty far out-of-date. Also, having resided in a hospital for the majority of nine months and volunteered in a nursing home once or twice a month for eight, I was considered to be in the "high-risk" pool for TB. So I got a skin test today. It just looks like a little pimple, though. Hopefully it'll look about the same on Monday, when I go in to have them read it.
And then I had to have blood work done, to check and see what other vaccines I needed to get, because it turns out that my family never gave this doctor's office my immunization records from California. Go figure. So while they're patching up my arm after drawing the blood, I'm trying to get my high school to fax their copy of my records to the doctor's office.
Then they have me sit in the waiting room while they wait for the fax, and there's this other guy in the room who has just gotten a vaccine of his own. Suddenly he starts moaning, then turns red, then starts convulsing... His mom calls for help, and they manage to get his reaction under control after a few seconds. It turned out that not only did he have a vaccine that he had reacted badly to, but he also hadn't really eaten much that day, so his blood sugar was low. I hadn't eaten much that day, either.
"Okay, time for me to go to Starbucks..."
But yeah. I got four vaccines today: meningitis, tetanus, and hepatitis A and B. So I got my arms stuck six times today. New record! And now we have the thermostat set three degrees lower than usual, because I'm having hot flashes from all these vaccines. Bleh!
