I need advice on what to do medically about a running injury. I did something that's pretty bad for someone who doesn't run, but is in shape due to sports and other activities. You see, two weeks ago, hockey ended and I still wanted to be in shape for upcoming tryouts for other leagues. So, I ran a 5k course which is the same as a race that goes by my house every April. Since my legs aren't used to pavement and it's hard, I severely hurt my knees after 3 days of running. I was doing it at a rather fast pace too which made it all the worse I'm guessing (5k in 18 minutes +/-).

So for the past week up until today, I haven't been able to walk/walk properly. At first both knees were hurting, but now it's just the left one. It seems that I strained my ACL or some other tendon. Today was the first day where I was able to walk quite normally as well as run (not full-out) for about 50-75 meters or so. It gets better when I stay off it, but that's impossible to do with my schedule as I have intense band times at the moment where I'm running from one place to another. And then school does not help at all either, walking from class to class.

Being the ignoramus I am, I have followed the RICE acronym either as I can't remember what 'R' stands for and I haven't had time to put on Ice. Compression, I guess is quite my own fault since I could just wrap an ACE bandage around it. And elevation is quite farfetch'd at the moment as well with my schedule. So, it's getting better but the progress is wavering of my knee. Today was the best it's been in a long time, but yesterday, the progress had decreased for one reason or another.

Any helpful tips to offer? And just to let you know, I did learn from this mistake of running on the pavement. When my knee is healed fully, I'll be running on my treadmill...a nice, soft, and sturdy contraption.
