For those of you not up on your Doctor Who lore, the Weeping Angels are one of the most terrifying enemies ever encountered. And I mean "terrifying" in a very real sense -- they're not merely massively powerful and nigh-indestructible like the Daleks or the Sontarans, but rather... well, I really can't describe what makes them so very terrifying.

Maybe it's my mild phobia of statues coming to life that the Angels embody.

At any rate, here's the Weeping Angels in a nutshell: Due to some bizarre quantum evolutionary... thing (it's all very timey-wimey), the Angels are stone statuary when they are being observed. Look away, however, and they suddenly become amazingly fast and efficient killers, frozen in place again the moment anyone observes them.

Now, Notch is bringing a new mob to Minecraft. Called Enderman (apparently a play on the unofficial nickname "Slender Men" that they received on forums from early screenshots), these new mobs are normally passive.

Look directly at them, however, and they suddenly freeze in place, turning slowly to look at you. Look away, and they charge you with amazing speed -- even teleporting closer to you if they think they're too far away!! -- until you freeze them in place again by looking directly at them again!

I don't know if Notch has seen Doctor Who or knows of the Weeping Angels, but he has seemingly rendered them with terrifying accuracy into Minecraft!
