It's like people have programed attitudes towards different points of view. I mostly chalk this up to my somewhat different than normal political position, if I discuss something with a liberal they think I'm a conservative and they use their anti conservative talking points and if I talk to a conservative they use their anti liberal talking points. Much of the time people seem to immediately snap to a very defensive or somewhat outraged stance on an issue and I had been chalking that up to a bad start on my part but things I have read recently have been making me wonder about that.
I occasionally come across an article in a journal about how conservatives are more likely to be x and liberals are more likely to be y and mostly I just wonder how that nonsense got into a peer reviewed journal but the more and more I hear things like this the more I wonder if there are basic personality differences between the two groups.
So here is my question to everybody: What is your political leaning and what personality traits would you attribute to people from the various political leanings? As in libertarians are more likely to be crazy people (I hear that a lot) or liberals are more likely to be potheads or conservatives are more likely to hate gay people. But don't just leave it at that, be as expressive as you can and keep in mind it's just opinions we are dealing with here so nobody can be wrong... unless you call me crazy.
Also if anybody has links to any of those crazy liberals vs. conservative personality studies I'd like to see those as well.
