Hateful people are expected to be greeted by hate. And when they are, they feel that much more justified in their own hatred.
If you greet them with kindness and tolerance instead, I've found it's actually possible to knock them off balance long enough to state your own opinion in a respectful and intelligent way. And I have changed minds that way.
I donno anyone who's succeeded in making someone less hateful by being hateful towards them.
Violence begets violence. Hate begets hate. Let's beget something else instead.
