I'd heard you were supposed to use more, but I never understood why so I never bothered. I've never had problems with my pasta sticking together. I also just throw the pasta in while the water is cold and let it come to a boil with the pasta in, and I've never had problems with that either. But I think I will try letting the water boil first, then putting the pasta in and turning it off because the way I do it it always boils over and makes a mess.
