Laptop Fan is Very Noisy

My laptop is rather old and the fan is now misbehaving. It started making a loud rattling noise days ago. It's done this in the past, but usually stops after a minute or so (or a light tap on the case). This time it won't stop.

I tried searching for a replacement fan online, but it seems sellers try to price-gouge you. $145 for a fan? No thanks.

Then I opened 'er up and took the fan out. I tried to get some oil in the fan, but I don't think it really got inside. I was afraid to pry the [private] part off to really get in there, thinking if I broke the damn thing I'm SOL. When I put it all back together, though, the noise continued.

Is it a bad idea to really pull the fan apart? Will it go back together again?
